Categories

Sellvio includes a dedicated article category known as "Blog". While this category can be renamed to suit the store owner's preferences, it cannot be removed, as the system uses articles from this category to showcase content on the homepage.

Similar to event categories, article categories are language-dependent, meaning they can be created separately for each language supported by the online store.

The Categories Administration Page can be accessed via the Content Management → Categories menu in the administrative sidebar.

To view the list of categories for a specific language, select the desired language from the Languages section in the left sidebar. This selected language will also be used when creating a new category.

Categories

  1. Languages - You can create article categories for each language used in the webshop. The languages listed in the Languages panel function as pseudo-categories.
  2. Name - The name of the article category.
  3. Visible - Indicates whether the category is active or inactive. Inactive categories are not visible to the store's customers.
  4. Featured on homepage - Indicates which categories have articles displayed on the main page.
  5. Categories can be manually rearranged by clicking and dragging the "arrows" icon. Subcategories can only be rearranged within the level they belong to.
  6. By clicking the "Edit" button, store owners can modify existing categories.
  7. If a category is no longer needed, store owners can delete it by clicking the "Trash" button.
  8. New article categories can be created at any time by clicking the "Add New" button.

Adding and editing categories

Creating new categories in Sellvio is simple and involves just a few steps:

General Tab

Categories

  • Name - The name serves a dual purpose, being used both in the administrative interface and as it appears to customers in the store.
  • Parent - Specifies the parent category for a subcategory. To create a new top-level category, simply leave this field blank.
  • Language - Categories can be created for each active language in the store. The language is automatically set to the one selected on the list page before clicking the "Add New" button.
  • Active - Determines whether the category is visible to the store’s customers.
  • Featured on homepage - Determines whether articles from the category can appear on the main page. Only one category can have this option active at a time.
  • Short name - A brief introductory text providing a concise overview of the category. This field allows admins to create and edit content with a visual representation similar to the final output. It enables users to format text, insert images, and design the main description content in a way that reflects how it will appear to users.
  • Picture - The category's cover image.

Once all mandatory fields (marked with an asterisk) are filled out, the column can be saved by clicking the "Save" or "Submit & Submit" button.

SEO Tab

Sellvio provides settings for in-depth SEO optimization for each content type and category. A comprehensive explanation of the various SEO settings and their usage can be found here.

Sharing Tab

Under the dedicated Sharing tab, store owners can configure Open Graph (OG) settings for the category’s language.

Categories

  • OG title – The category title that appears when the category is shared. It helps regulate how the page title is displayed on social platforms, making it more user-friendly and appealing to an online audience.
  • OG description – The category description that appears when the page is shared.
  • OG picture – The image that appears alongside the OG title and OG description when content is shared on social media. This image can only be configured for the primary language of the store. When a category is shared on social media, the same image will be used across all languages.

Translations Tab

While categories can be created separately for each language, administrators can link categories and specify their translations on the Translations tab.

This way, when customers view a category and switch the web store's language, instead of being redirected to the homepage, they are redirected to the linked category in the new language.

Categories

To assign a translation to the edited category, click on one of the auto-fill language fields and start typing. Once the results appear, click on the category you want to assign.

To unlink categories (remove a translation for a specific language), simply click on the small "X" at the end of the auto-fill field.

In all cases, don't forget to click Submit or Submit & Stay after making changes to the category.

Creating article categories with Artificial Intelligence

Sellvio subscribers who opt for our Artificial Intelligence package gain the ability to create article categories using AI.

After activating the Artificial Intelligence package, the following new features become available on the article categories list page.

Categories

  • Create new with AI – Clicking this button opens the editor interface for creating an article category with artificial intelligence.
  • "AI icon" – By clicking on the AI icon, you can generate new articles with artificial intelligence under the selected article category.

Categories

After opening the "Generate category with AI" window, the store owner simply needs to:

  1. Provide a detailed description in the input field, specifying the subject of the new article category for the AI.
  2. Click the "Create with AI" button and wait for the system to generate the new article category using artificial intelligence.

While creating the new category, the AI will automatically fill in the short and detailed descriptions for the category.

Modifying article categories with Artificial Intelligence

With the help of artificial intelligence, you can not only create new categories but also modify existing ones.

The store owner simply needs to go to Content Management → Categories in the admin panel and click the Edit button for the desired category.

Categories

On the Edit Article Category page, the store owner can click on the quick menu in the bottom right corner of the screen and select the type of modification they want to make using artificial intelligence.
