Galleries and their management
While Sellvio allows images to be attached to nearly any type of content (such as articles or products), it also includes a dedicated Galleries Module, complete with a specialized gallery page that lists and displays all galleries added to the system.
Galleries and their required translations can be created for all languages used in the webstore.
Let’s explore in detail how to manage galleries using the Galleries Module and how they appear in the webshop.
To access the Galleries Module, navigate to Galleries → Galleries from the left sidebar.
- Title – The title of the gallery, which also serves as the gallery name on the dedicated gallery page.
- Author – The creator of the photos included in the gallery.
- Active – The indicator in the Active column provides administrators with a quick overview of which languages the gallery is currently active for among the supported store languages. A gallery can only be activated for a language if it has a translation available for that language.
- Gray Color – Indicates the gallery is not active for the specified language. It will not be visible to customers viewing the webstore in that language.
- Green Color – Indicates the gallery is active for the specified language. It will be listed and accessible to customers viewing the webstore in that language.
- Date – The publishing date of the gallery.
- To find a gallery, simply enter its title in the search bar and click the "magnifying glass" icon.
- Store owners can modify existing galleries by clicking the "edit" button.
- If a gallery is no longer needed, store owners can delete it by clicking the "trash" icon.
- New galleries can be created at any time by clicking the "Add New" button.
Galleries are sorted by date by default.
At the bottom of the gallery list page, administrators can manually reorder galleries by clicking the "Sort manually" button. They can do this by clicking and dragging the "arrows" icon at the end of each list entry.
IMPORTANT: When using manual sorting, if a large number of albums (200+) need to be displayed, the list loading time may significantly increase.
As mentioned earlier, administrators can easily create new galleries by clicking the "Add New" button in the top-right corner of the Galleries Administration page.
Unlike previous content types, galleries offer a broader range of settings that can be configured across multiple tabs.
Let’s go through each tab to see how administrators can set up a new gallery:
General Tab
On the General tab, administrators can configure the basic information required for the gallery.
-
Title – The title of the gallery in the store’s default language. This serves as the gallery name on the dedicated gallery page.
-
Active – This control determines whether the gallery is accessible in the default language. Deactivated galleries are not available to customers and do not appear on the gallery page.
-
Author – The creator of the photos included in the gallery.
-
Date – Refers to the publishing date of the gallery.
-
Tags – Galleries are one of the content types that can have tags assigned. Tags previously created in Settings → Tags can be linked to galleries, and administrators can also create new tags. Tags added to galleries will also appear on the Tags Administration page.
-
Lead text – Administrators can insert a short paragraph providing brief information about the gallery. This text appears below the gallery title on the gallery details page for customers.
-
Options – Galleries offer options that affect the information displayed to customers:
- Featured – Adds a distinctive label to the gallery on the gallery list page, drawing customers' attention to it.
- Watermark – If enabled, the store logo will be applied as a watermark to all images in the gallery. Store logo settings were previously discussed in Settings → General Settings.
- Show author on photos – When enabled, the author’s name will be overlaid on images, visible to customers browsing the gallery in image viewer mode.
- Disable comments – Galleries are one of the content types in Sellvio that allow customers to add comments. Disabling comments removes the comments section from the gallery details page.
-
Regenerate files – This button allows administrators to regenerate the images associated with the gallery. This function may be needed in the following cases:
- After changing the site logo – If watermarks are enabled, Sellvio automatically adds the store logo as a watermark to gallery images. After changing the store logo, the button can regenerate gallery images with the new logo.
- After disabling the watermark – The button can regenerate gallery images without the watermark after it has been disabled.
Translations Tab
The Translations tab allows administrators to create translations for the gallery in all active languages used in the webstore. This step is essential before the gallery can be activated.
- Title – The gallery title for the selected language.
- Lead text – Administrators can insert a short paragraph in the selected language to provide concise information about the gallery. This functions the same way as it does for the default language.
- Active – This setting determines whether the gallery is available in the selected language. If disabled, the gallery will not be accessible or displayed in that language.
- OG title – The page title that appears when the gallery is shared. This helps control how the title is displayed on social platforms, making it more user-friendly and appealing to an online audience.
- OG description – The gallery description that appears when the page is shared on social platforms.
Files Tab
The Files Tab is where the real magic happens, as it is used to upload and manage the actual images for the gallery.
Before adding images or files to a new gallery, you must first save it.
The Files Tab contains two multi-file upload fields: one for adding images to the gallery and another for uploading accompanying documents:
- Gallery field – This field allows you to upload multiple images to the gallery. The images uploaded here will serve as the gallery's main visuals. For a comprehensive explanation of how to use multi-image upload fields in Sellvio, refer to this article.
- Documents field – This field enables administrators to upload accompanying documents to a gallery. All uploaded documents will appear as downloadable files on the gallery details page. For detailed guidance on using multi-file upload fields in Sellvio, please refer to this article.
Related content
In Sellvio, administrators can associate related content with specific content types, such as galleries.
All related content types appear below the gallery's content in their designated sections.
Explore the various types of content that can be added as related content:
- Related articles – Text-based articles, such as news or blog posts. To add an article as related content, simply use the input field to search for the article by title, then click on the desired article from the dropdown results. There is no limit to the number of articles that can be added.
- Related product categories – Administrators can add related products from specific product categories by searching for the category name and clicking the desired product category. There is no limit to the number of product categories that can be added.
- Related products – Products can be added in the same way as product categories by searching for a specific product by name and adding it with a single click from the results. There is no limit to the number of products that can be associated.
- Related events – While Sellvio provides a comprehensive structure and module for managing events, an event can also be designated as related content once added to the system. Additionally, there is no limit to the number of related events that can be associated.
- Related galleries – Galleries can also be linked as related content, with no limit to the number of galleries that can be assigned.
- Related polls – Polls are the only type of content that can only be embedded as related content since they do not have standalone pages. Nevertheless, as with other related content, there is no limit to the number of polls that can be assigned to a single gallery.
SEO Tab
Sellvio provides the ability to perform in-depth SEO optimization for specific content types, such as articles, pages, galleries, and products. For a detailed explanation of the various SEO options and how to make full use of them, please refer to the following article.
Sharing Tab
We have already encountered some sharing settings on the Translations Tab.
On the dedicated Sharing Tab, store owners can configure the Open Graph (OG) settings for the gallery in the store's primary language. OG data helps control how the page information is displayed when shared on social platforms.
- OG title – The title of the page that appears when the page is shared. It helps control how the title is displayed on social platforms, making it more user-friendly and appealing to the online audience.
- OG description – The gallery description that appears when the page is shared.
- OG picture – The image that appears alongside the OG Title and OG Description when the content is shared on social media. This image can only be configured for the store's primary language. When a gallery is shared on social media, the same image will be used across all languages.
Comments
Galleries are one of the three content types that allow customers to leave comments.
Comments on a gallery can be accessed in the administration sidebar under Galleries → Comments.
